Some sales personnel advertise inflatable pfd's are self servicing,  this is only for a limited time. Refer to the manufacturers recommendations  The servicing of the pfd's is to see if these pfd's may still function. Over the last 5 years in servicing these pfd's I have seen what can go wrong, I would strongly recommend for your safety and the safety of your family that you get them checked by an approved service agent. If you go over, without a working pfd you may last 1--3 hours depending on the water temp.

Below is a summary of what we check (Note we don't repair)

24hr Chamber Pressure Test (most important if this goes down you go under) Co2 Cylinder, Buckles/straps, Harness, Light, Lifting strap, Tether, Oral Inflation Tube and valve, Outer shell, Reflective tape, Trigger mechanism, Water activated cartridge/bobbin and valve, Zips, Pouches and Pockets.

If the PFD passes the service we issue a Test Report, plus a small wallet certificate.

When servicing we follow the direction of the workshop manuals supplied by each company.

Annual Self Inspection Link Recreational Use Only

Self Inspect Recreational use only. Starts from the date of purchase

Maritime regulations require servicing annually for commercially operated vessels.
